Employee injured when struck by falling board

Employee #1, of Sierra Pacific Industries, was inspecting broken water pipes on the ground floor of a sawmill. He was determining which pipes needed repairs and what materials would be needed to make the repairs. He was standing outside an area that was barricaded because debris fell into the area from the sawmill edgers directly above. A piece of wood about 2 in. by 15 in. by 8 ft long fell through a floor opening, glanced off a pipe, and struck Employee #1 in the face. He sustained fractures to his facial bones and was hospitalized.
