Investigation Summary

At or about 1:00 p.m. on June 4, 1991, Employee #1 was standing approximately 17 ft from a 950E Caterpillar that a coworker was using to remove garbage from an overloaded trailer that could not be driven on the public roadways. As the coworker drove the Caterpillar through the garbage, it rolled over a wooden log (3 ft in length by 4 in. in diameter) that flew toward Employee #1 and struck him in the abdomen. Employee #1 was transferred to Mt. Diablo Hospital in Concord, CA, where he was admitted with blunt trauma to the abdomen/hematoma.
