Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 201503315
Event: 10/27/2002
Employee injured back while lifting a patient

On October 27, 2002, Employee #1 of CST Environmental was asked by the nurse to assist in a two person lift of a non ambulatory male patient from the bed to a wheel chair. No other employees were present at the time. The charge nurse had to answer the phone after they started the lift. When the nurse returned, Employee #1 had already completed the lift without any other help. During the lift, the patient actively resisted the move. Employee #1 felt sharp shooting pain from back to right leg. He was also fatigued because of constant double shift work. Employee #1 was diagnosed with lumbar radiculopathy
