Employee sustains burns from fire after spilling gas

On August 3, 1990, Employee #1, an irrigator/laborer, was assigned cleanup around the farm shop, 1/4 mile from the office in King City. He was burning rubbish in a 55 gallon drum. Two pans of oil and gas were put in the fire by the employee of his own volition. Some gas spilled on his arm and caught fire; he put it out with dirt, but was badly burnt. His foreman took him to Mae Memorial Hospital in his pickup. He was treated and kept three days in the hospital for observation of 2nd-degree burns with no permanent disfigurement. No violation was observed or cited regarding the accident.
