Employee suffers seizure and dies of subdural hematoma

At approximately 7:15 p.m. on September 20, 1993, Employee #1 was placing metal trays under a table in the kitchen of a dining hall. He stood up and attempted to take a step but fell backward (while his body remained rigid) without extending his hands to break his fall. His head contacted the concrete floor. The fall distance was approximately 5 ft 3 in. An eyewitness said that the floor was not wet or slippery and that Employee #1 did not slip or trip. Employee #1 was transported to the hospital at approximately 7:45 p.m. on September 20, 1993, where CT scan demonstrated acute and chronic subdural hematoma. By September 29, 1993, an EEG showed minimal brain activity. By October 5, 1993, Employee #1 was clinically brain dead. On October 22, 1993 cardiac standstill was confirmed. Employee #1 had a history of seizure disorders.
