Investigation Summary
Employees #1 and #2 were coworkers whose job was to place sheets of compounded rubber into a mold which was then placed into a press and heated. At 11:00 a.m. on February 5, 1991, Employee #1 died of a heart attack after work at the home of another employee. According to the Chester County coroner, Employee #1 had a heart condition and was unaware of it. Her death was not job related. At 2:30 p.m. on February 5, 1991, Employee #2 collapsed at work. Minutes before she collapsed and became unconscious, coworkers observed that she was having difficulty breathing and was exhibiting symptoms similar to choking. Although attempts to revive her at the scene were unsuccessful, other first aid measures did keep her alive and Employee #2 was taken to Piedmont Hospital, where she is currently in a coma. Her complete recovery is not likely. Because Employee #2 is not dead and there is no next of kin with the power of attorney to authorize the release of her medical records, there is no direct way to determine her exact medical status.
