ELECTRIC SHOCK - CONTACT WITH OVERHEAD LINE THRU METAL POLE

TWO EMPLOYEES HAD BEEN SENT FROM OUT OF STATE TO COLLECT SAMPLES OF BEANS THAT HAD BEEN GROWN UNDER CONTRACT. THE BEANS WERE IN A METAL BIN THAT WAS 18 FEET IN DIAMETER AND 17 TO 18 FEET HIGH. ONE OF THE EMPLOYEES CLIMBED A FIXED METAL LADDER FASTENED TO THE OUTSIDE OF THE BIN TO TAKE A SAMPLE THROUGH A HATCH ON TOP OF THE BIN. AS HE WAS ASSEMBLING THE SAMPLE PROBE, THE PROBE'S HANDLE CONTACTED AN OVERHEAD POWER LINE THAT RAN ABOUT 5 FEET ABOVE THE BIN. THE EMPLOYEE WAS ELECTROCUTED.
