CONSTRUCTION WORKER KILLED IN FALL THROUGH SKYLIGHT

AT ABOUT 7:15 PM ON MAY 16, 1988, EMPLOYEE #1 WAS INSTALLING A 10 FOOT SECTION 29G ROOF CAP MATERIAL ON A SINGLE STORY STEEL STORAGE BUILDING, 60 FEET LONG AND 48 FEET WIDE, USED TO STORE ANTIQUE CARS. THE BUILDING HAD A STEEL ROOF AND A FULL CONCRETE FLOOR. TWO SKYLIGHTS, EACH 6 FEET WIDE AND 10 FEET LONG, MADE OF LIGHTWEIGHT FYLON, WERE ADJACENT TO THE ROOF PEAK WHERE EMPLOYEE #1 WAS OBSERVED WORKING BY THE BUILDING OWNER AT 4:30 PM. THE SKYLIGHTS WERE ABOUT 30 FEET APART AND ON THE SAME SIDE. AT 7:15 PM, THE OWNER NOTICED A HOLE IN THE SKYLIGHT FURTHEST SOUTH. HE WENT INTO THE BUILDING TO EXPLORE. HE FOUND EMPLOYEE #1 LYING IN A LARGE POOL OF BLOOD DIRECTLY BELOW THE HOLE IN THE SKYLIGHT. EMPLOYEE #1 HAD FALLEN THROUGH THE SKYLIGHT, A DROP OF 18-20 FEET. THERE WERE NO WITNESSES TO THE ACTUAL FALL.
