Investigation Summary
At 3:00 p.m. on February 3, 1994, Employee #1 cut the metal leg of a water tower with a torch. The leg was supposed to fall away from him to the ground. A metal lattice slat made of a 3/8 in. by 2 in. by 17 in. long flat bar was the only thing holding the beam. Before the slat was cut all the way through, the 17 ft long water tower leg piece swung down and around, catching Employee #1 between the cut piece and the water tower leg to which he was tied-off. The coroner believes that his death was immediate.
