Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 605030
Event: 06/01/1993
Employee killed while trying to escape falling tree

Employee #1, a skidder operator, was approximately 75 ft from a sawyer who was felling a more than 100 ft long tree. When the tree began to fall, Employee #1 jumped out of the skidder and ran for cover. The tree struck him on the head, killing him. Had he remained inside the skidder, which was equipped with ROPS, he probably would have survived.
