Employee killed in fall from elevation

At approximately 6:45 p.m. on June 1, 1996, Employee #1 and a coworker were working on a construction project at the American Refuel site in Niagara, NY. This project involved the erection of a boiler house that burns municipal solid waste as fuel, generating electricity and process steam. The two workers were making final measurements to complete the installation of 1/2 inch OD tubing that was to be used as a sensing line for monitoring gases when Employee #1 fell approximately 52 feet to the ground. He suffered head trauma, multiple fractures, and other injuries. Employee #1 died between 10:30 p.m. and 11:20 p.m. on June 29, 1996.
