Employee commits suicide in university medical lab

On October 25, 2000, Employee #1, a Ukrainian immigrant who had been an assistant professor at the Washington University Medical School in St. Louis, MO, for three months, was found dead in the cold lab facility. Initial reports suggested a possible hazardous materials spill as the cause of death. Subsequent investigation determined that Employee #1's death was a suicide and not work-related.
