Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 14343644
Event: 08/19/1992
Employee killed when struck by falling tree

Employee #1, who was felling hardwood saw timber, had back cut and under cut several trees in the work area. He had left the trees standing with less than 10 percent of the trees' fibers supporting the weight of the trees while he continued limbing and topping other trees that had been felled. As Employee #1 topped an oak, a previously cut ash tree, approximately 50 to 60 ft away, fell and struck him around the head and shoulders. He was killed.
