Investigation Summary
At approximately 9:00 a.m., Employee #2 was sent to help Employee #1 remove empty 55-gallon drums. Partially full drums were being emptied in the outer yard of a bus depot. At approximately 9:30 a.m., the size of the chemical spill in the outer yard was 70 feet wide by 200 feet long, and varied from 1 to 8 inches in depth. By approximately 9:45 a.m., both Employees #1 and #2 were suffering from severe headaches, nausea, and burning of the eyes. They left the spill site and reported to their union vice-chairman who, in turn, informed the facility supervisor and called for an ambulance. Employees #1 and #2 were taken to the hospital at approximately 10:30 a.m. and released at approximately 2:00 p.m.
