Event: 12/27/1988
TWO CONTRACTORS INJURED AFTER REMOVING SHELF BRACKETS

Two contractors were injured after they removed the bottom support bracket used to hold book shelves in place. The contractors were assigned the task of removing some book shelves on a second floor university library in preparation of installing new carpet. To remove the book shelves, they had to remove the lower support shelf bracket. Once the brackets were removed, the bookshelves became unstable and ultimately collapsed. The two contractors were trapped underneath the rubble. One had broken ribs and the other had compressed fracture of the lower back.
