Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 891531
Event: 01/24/1989
Employee injured in fall

At approximately 9:45 a.m. on January 24, 1989, Employee #1 was working on the fifth floor of a building, installing plastic sheets on the interior walls. He was observed by a coworker coming out of the rear of the building and walking to the mobile lunch wagon, where he purchased a sandwich and drink. As he walked past coworkers to re-enter the building, they mentioned to each other that Employee #1 looked as if he were walking on needles. Approximately two minutes later, they were told that he had been found lying on the ground. When a coworker asked him what had happened, he stated that he had fallen. When asked, "From where?" he stated, "Right here." Employee #1 was told not to move while the coworker called 911. He was transported by ambulance to UM Hospital, where he was treated for a fractured right arm and a lacerated left leg. When the employee was later interviewed, he could not remember from where he had fallen or what he was doing prior to falling. There were no witnesses.
