Employee's finger crushed by auger bit

Employee #1 and a coworker were using a 4 in. auger bit on a drilling machine to make a notch on a 2 in. by 12 in. board. Employee #1 was holding the board with both hands while the coworker operated the drill. As soon as the drill bit hit the board, it pulled it toward the center of the machine. The bit caught the employee's middle finger on his right hand and crushed it.
