Employee dies when caught between manlift and pit

Employee #1, a parking attendant, was attempting to remove his garage door opener from the manlift pit. While he was inside the pit, the manlift was activated, causing Employee #1's pelvic area to be caught between the manlift step and the entrance floor grate of the pit. Employee #1 died of adult respiratory distress syndrome and complicating multiple injuries of the abdomen, pelvic, and scrotal areas.
