EMPLOYEE BURNED WHEN GASOLINE VAPORS IGNITED, LATER DIED

EMPLOYEE #1 WAS UNDER A SHADE TREE USING GASOLINE TO CLEAN A PAINT ROLLER. ANOTHER EMPLOYEE POURED A SMALL AMOUNT OF GAS INTO THE ROLLER PAN, THEN MOVED AWAY TO SET THE GAS CAN DOWN. WHEN HE TURNED AROUND, EMPLOYEE #1 WAS ON FIRE. EMPLOYEE #1 RECIEVED BURNS TO APPROXIMATELY 50% OF HIS BODY. THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED ON JULY 25, 1986, AND THE EMPLOYEE DIED ON SEPTEMBER 6, 1986. IT WAS VERY HOT AND HUMID THE DAY OF THE ACCIDENT. THE SOURCE OF IGNITION FOR THE GASOLINE HAS NOT BEEN DETERMINED.
