Investigation Summary
At 2:00 p.m. on November 21, 2014, an employee entered a corn bin from the top entrance hole and walked down the pile of corn to clear three sumps clogged with frozen corn. The employee used a 14 foot long pole while the drag conveyor was running. The employee was pulled into the corn after clearing the jam and the corn started to flow into the sump. The coroner's report stated the cause of death was attributed to mechanical asphyxia due to compression by mass of grain within a corn bin.
