EMPLOYEE STRUCK AND KILLED BY FALLING TREE

Employee #1 had cut down three trees in the area. The next tree he cut was a poplar tree. When this tree fell, it struck and glanced off a double basswood tree, before it fell to the ground. The basswood tree was leaning due to being hit. The roots of the basswood tree were in very poor soil that consisted mostly of a rock-dirt mixture. Employee #1 started to go down to the poplar tree to prepare it for removal. His co-worker offered to knock the basswood tree down. However, Employee #1 proceeded down to the poplar tree and began to prepare it for removal. While doing this, the unstable basswood tree fell and pinned the employee between the popular and basswood tree. Employee #1 was killed.
