Event: 06/10/1992
Employee dies of heart attack while painting on scaffold

Employee #1 was working on a catenary scaffold approximately 30 ft above a roadway, painting the structural steel of the elevated roadway. While on break on the scaffold, he suffered a severe heart attack. The foreman had just arrived at the scaffold in the bucket of a manlift when he noticed the employee slump over. With the help of a coworker, the foreman put the employee in the bucket and lowered him to the ground. The foreman said that the employee stopped breathing and started to slide down in the lift. He also said that the employee's eyes were rolled back and he was not breathing by the time they reached the ground. EMS was called and the employee was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
