Abstract: On July 15, 2008, Employee #1 was working for a roofing contractor. It was his first day on the job with no prior roofing or construction experience. The temperature on the street level was measured on site to be 100 degree Fahrenheit and the relative humidity was 59 percent. Sufficient drinking water was available and a source of shade was provided in the form of a canopy. E1 was not provided training on heat illness prevention, including the importance of acclimatization. He arrived on site at 6:00 a.m., took a 10 minute break at 8:45 a.m. and a 30 minute lunch break at 10:30 a.m. As a new hire, he helped the roofing crew lay roofing material, snapping lines, and housekeeping. At Approximately 12:45 p.m., he started to complain of dizziness and cramps. He was transported to a hospital where he was treated and released the same day for heat exhaustion.
