Employee falls from deck and incurs multiple injuries

At 3:15 p.m. on August 31, 2020, Employee #1, a 25-year-old male, was installing a deck at a residential barn. The employee was not using appropriate fall protection while working on the loft. While leaning on or stepping on an unsecured piece of plywood, the piece tipped, causing the employee to fall to the ground below. The fall resulted in multiple injuries, including a broken lower back, four broken ribs on the right side, a punctured lung cavity, a broken right shoulder blade, a fractured skull, a concussion, and middle back compression. The employee was hospitalized for treatment of the injuries.
