Employee's fingers amputated while using wood splitter

On January 6, 1995, Employee #1 was at his work station resplitting large pieces of firewood into smaller ones. He was cutting two pieces simultaneously when the lower piece, which was knotty, popped up and caught his right middle and ring fingers against the wood splitter. Both fingers were amputated, but the middle finger was reattached.
