CMAA - Alliance Close-Out Report - July 28, 2006

OSHA and Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) Alliance Close-Out Report

On October 3, 2002, OSHA and the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) formed an Alliance to provide CMAA members with information and guidance to help them protect employees' health and safety, particularly in reducing and preventing exposure to construction industry hazards and increasing access to safety and health information and training resources. Through the Alliance, OSHA and CMAA helped increase the public’s understanding of the safety and health impacts of construction management issues on a job site and shared information during the development of compliance assistance tools. The Alliance agreement was renewed July 28, 2004.

Because CMAA has been focusing its resources on other projects and priorities, OSHA and CMAA agreed to conclude the Alliance as of July 28, 2006. The following successes resulted from OSHA and CMAA working together to meet the Alliance’s goals:

  • Representatives from the association worked with the Agency to develop the OSHA Assistance for the Construction Management Industry Safety and Health Topics page and served on the page’s editorial board.
  • CMAA developed and posted a safety page for construction managers on the association’s Web site. The page contains information on the OSHA and CMAA Alliance and links to safety and health regulatory agencies and associations.
  • On October 13, 2002, Paula White, Director, Directorate of Cooperative and State Programs, USDOL-OSHA gave a presentation, "Extending OSHA’s Impact", during the CMAA National Conference and Trade Show in San Diego, California.
  • Representatives from CMAA staffed an association exhibit at the OSHA Compliance Assistance Training Sessions; June 9-13, 2003 in Vienna, Virginia and June 14-18, 2004 in Falls Church, Virginia.
  • On September 13, 2004, Ginger Henry, then Safety and Occupational Health Specialist, Office of Construction Services, USDOL-OSHA, made a presentation, "Safety is Everyone's Responsibility," during the 2004 CMAA National Conference and Trade Show in San Antonio, Texas.
  • Representatives from OSHA and CMAA staffed an Alliance Program exhibit at the CMAA National Conference and Trade Show, September 12-14, 2004 in San Antonio, Texas.
  • A representative from CMAA participated on the OSHA Alliance Program Construction Roundtable’s Design for Safety Workgroup.
