Description: The National Fall Safety Stand Down event will be held at the International Union of Painters & Allied Trades, District Council 711 Training Center, 9 Fadem Road, Springfield, NJ on Wednesday, May 13th 2015 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Lunch will be served. The event is sponsored by the District Council 711, the Roofers Local 10 and the Northern NJ Federal Safety & Health Council. Falls are the leading cause of death in the Construction Industry. Hundreds die each year and thousands more suffer debilitating injuries. Lack of proper fall protection remains one of the most frequently cited OSHA violations. Come to the event and learn about proper fall protection. Whether you are in General Industry or Construction this session will be of benefit. To register for this free event, e-mail Lou Lento. Description: Participants will be broken into groups and given a series of scenarios and asked to find solutions to the given fall protection problem. Example: "given a scenario, how would you use the hierarchy of controls to reduce the potential for falls?" Afterwards, the groups will present their solutions in a discussion style format.

Description: The Twin Tiers STEPS Network has scheduled a Stand Down event with Mark Arcuri from Honeywell Safety Products / Miller Fall Protection & Safety. Mr. Arcuri will provide an on-site demonstration of fall protection equipment from the Honeywell Safety Products Road Show trailer.

Puerto Rico
San Juan

Location: Door to Door in Construction Initiative (Banner) Projects, San Juan, PR

Description: PR OSHA is going to visit the participants of the Door to Door in Construction Initiative. A short orientation about the four leading causes of fatalities in construction and how to prevent related accidents in the work place will be presented to the employees. Also, a poster with a pictographic of each leading cause is going to be provided to each project visited.

The Assistant Secretary of PR OSHA, José I. Droz Alvarado, the Director of the Consultation Program, Ilza Roman, the Director of Bureau of Inspection, Luis Pardo, and the consultants are going to visit the Construction Projects in the San Juan area and each area office is going to visit a project in their area. 1,000 employees are expected to be impacted.
