After some research, the company found the On-Site Consultation program. RedBuilt had its first Consultation visit with Oregon On-Site Consultation in 2015 when its injury and illness rates were above the national average for its industry.
During their initial visit, the consultants addressed work processes involving the use of respiratory protection, material handling and placement, ventilation, and numerous machines guarding issues. The consultants were a great resource for the company’s new safety coordinator. Some changes the company implemented as a direct result of its Consultation visits were a revamping of the lockout/tagout program and a new hire mentoring program. It was also important that company associates were involved in developing and teaching these programs.
