Precision Edge Surgical Products Company LLC. learned about MIOSHA On-site Consultation Program while researching Michigan OSHA (MIOSHA) regulatory standards and requirements. They decided to schedule a consultation visit.

While conducting noise monitoring during the visit on an employee drying parts off with compressed air, damaging noise exposure was identified. Noise levels were at or above the eight-hour time-weighted average (TWA8) of 85 dBA, which could seriously harm human hearing.

In response to the monitoring results the company implemented the following:

• a new workstation,
• use of lower decibel rated air nozzles,
• reaffirming the mandatory use of hearing protection in the area.

A follow-up visit confirmed that the employee exposure was reduced to safer levels, below the noise action level.
