Distribution Hub for Essential Supplies

Highland Brewing Company had their first visit with North Carolina Department of Labor (NCDOL's) Consultative Services was in 2011. Their journey to achieving SHARP status started back in 2017 and was achieved in 2021.

When devastating flooding hit during Hurricane Helene, the company used its knowledge gained through SHARP and their partnership with consultation to help the greater community.

Immediately after the storm, Highland opened its doors to provide critical aid. The brewery partnered with local non-profit BeLoved Asheville and transformed its public spaces and warehouse into a distribution center for bottled water, food, and other essential supplies. It also provided non-potable water onsite, giving community members a safe place to fill containers during a public health crisis.

Highland served as a logistics hub, housing supplies for the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the Humane Society, Wine to Water and supporting Flush AVL, a grassroots nonprofit addressing sanitation/flushing needs.

The spirit of safety and health on the job extended to the community and continued to help the recovery.

The Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) acknowledges small and medium-sized businesses that have used OSHA On-Site Consultation Program services and operate exemplary workplace safety and health programs.
