Hawaii Consultation: Spanning the Airwaves to Reach Small Business
On August 7, 2022, a podcast was broadcasted simultaneously across four Hawaii radio stations featuring Alan Yamamoto, Hawaii Occupational Safety and Health (HIOSH) Consultation Program Manager. The broadcast introduced HIOSH’s Consultation & Training services for employers in the State of Hawaii. He emphasized that Consultation services are no-cost and confidential, and that the employer controls the scope of the visit. The podcast remains available here.
Yamamoto also promoted OSHA’s Safe + Sound Campaign, which encourages employers to develop and implement a safety and health program. During the campaign week in August, HIOSH encouraged employers to look at their own safety and health programs or to start one if they didn’t have one. In Hawaii, there is a requirement for employers with 10 or more employees to have a written safety and health program.
This podcast was part of HIOSH’s radio media blitz to highlight occupational safety and health campaigns, upcoming events, and career opportunities within HIOSH and the Consultation & Training Branch.
The OSHA On-Site Consultation Program offers no-cost and confidential occupational safety and health services to small and medium-sized businesses in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and several U.S. territories, with priority given to high hazard worksites. Consultants from state agencies or universities work with employers to identify workplace hazards and how to fix them, provide advice for compliance with OSHA standards, train and educate workers, and assist in establishing and improving safety and health programs. On-Site Consultation services are separate from OSHA enforcement efforts. To locate the OSHA On-Site Consultation program nearest you, call 800-321-OSHA (6742) or visit https://www.osha.gov/consultation.
