Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 001B Hazard:
29 CFR 1926.453(b)(2)(iv): Employee(s) working in an aerial lift did not always stand firmly on the floor of the basket: The employer is failing to protect workers from fall hazards when working from aerial lifts. This violation was most recently documented at a worksite located at 3500 East 149th Street, Kansas City, Missouri, where workers were required and/or permitted to climb guardrails of aerial lifts to gain access to work locations on the upper steel structure, which placed the employees above the provided fall protection. To abate this violation, the employer must assure that employees are not permitted to climb or to stand on the guardrails of aerial lifts and stand firmly on the floor of the basket. Pursuant to 29 CFR 1903.19, within ten (10) days of the abatement date, the employer must submit documents showing that it is in compliance with the standard, including the steps it is taking to assure that employees do not climb or stand on the aerial lift guardrails and stand firmly on the floor of the basket.
