Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.178(n)(1): All traffic regulations shall be observed, including authorized plant speed limits. A safe distance shall be maintained approximately three truck lengths from the truck ahead, and the truck shall be kept under control at all times. On or about February 06, 2014, employees of Home Depot, employees of CBS Personnel Services (dba Staffmark), and employees of Roadlink Workforce Solutions (dba Roadlink), were required to operate powered industrial vehicles (PIVs) on a daily basis in the Home Depot facility. The employees operating the PIVs did not maintain a safe distance, approximately three truck lengths from the truck ahead and did not ensure that the trucks were kept under control at all times. Employees operating the PIVs were involved in multiple incidents / accidents that resulted in property damage. The employer failed to ensure that all traffic regulations as required by 1910.178 were observed. Employees were thereby exposed to the hazards associated with PIVs being operated in an unsafe manner.
