Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing hazards: (a) Location - Maintenance shop: On or about December 7, 2007, employes were exposed to potential crushing hazards from an under hung Harrington hoist. Among other methods, a feasible means to eliminate or reduce this hazard is to install the hoist system, mechanisms and components in accordance with ASME B30.16. The hoist and appurtenaces shall be designed to withstand all stresses imposed under normal operating conditions while handling loads within the rated load (capacity).
