Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970; The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards which were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that an employee was crushed while working/walking next to wooden crates containing granite slabs: a) On or about July 16, 2007, the employer did not ensure that an employee protected himself from crushing hazards while unloading wooden crates containing granite slabs. A feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is as follows: 1) Institute and enforce a policy in which employees are prohibited from standing in the danger zone of improperly stacked or deteriorating wooden crates containing granite slabs.
