29 CFR 1910.134(d)(3)(i)(B)(1):The employer did not select a respirator for employee use that maintained the employee's exposure to the hazardous substance, when measured outside the respirator, at or below the maximum use concentration: a. Furnace Department: On or about 04/05/2021 , the employer exposed employees to hazards associated with lead, in that full face air purifying respirators did not maintain the employee's exposure at or below the maximum use concentration of 1,650 �g/m^3 for employees working as a blast loader operator, furnace operator, slag side blast operator, lead side furnace operator, and furnace lead exposed to lead in excess of the reduced permissible exposure limit (PEL) of 33 �g/m^3 ranging from 1,797 �g/m^3 - 3,780 �g/m^3. b. Refining Department: On or about 04/05/2021, the employer exposed employees to hazards associated with lead, in that full face air purifying respirators did not maintain the employee's exposure at or below the maximum use concentration of 1,650 �g/m^3 for employees working as a kettle operator. Employees were exposed to lead in excess of the reduced PEL of 33 �g/m^3, about 2,543 �g/m^3. c. RMPC Department: On or about 04/05/2021, the employer exposed employees to hazards associated with lead, in that full face air purifying respirators did not maintain the employee's exposure at or below the maximum use concentration of 1,650 �g/m^3 for employees working as a utility operator. Employees were exposed to lead in excess of the reduced PEL of 33 �g/m^3, about 2,504 �g/m^3. d. Maintenance Department: On or about 04/05/2021, the employer exposed employees to hazards associated with lead, in that full face air purifying respirators did not maintain the employee's exposure at or below the maximum use concentration of 1,650 �g/m^3 for employees conducting maintenance activities. Employees were exposed to lead in excess of the reduced PEL of 3,692 �g/m^3, about 16,390 �g/m^3.
