Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
29 CFR 1926.651(c)(2): A stairway, ladder, ramp or other safe means of egress was not located in trench excavations that were 4 feet (1.22m) or more in depth so as to require no more than 25 feet (7.62m) of lateral travel for employees: On or about June 18, 2020, employees repairing a 2-inch gas line leak inside an unprotected trench approximately 6-feet in depth were using the sides of the trench as a means of egress, which enhanced the potential for tripping, slipping, or falling while trying to climb out of the trench in an emergency.
