Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 001A Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.1053(c): Permissible exposure limit (PEL). The employer shall ensure that no employee is exposed to an airborne concentration of respirable crystalline silica in excess of 50 µg/m3, calculated as an 8-hour TWA. a. An employee operated a handheld Makita angle grinder, model 9565CV, while grinding, cutting, and polishing in the fabrication shop area and was exposed to Respirable Crystalline Silica at a Time Weighted Average (TWA) of 1096.9 micrograms per cubic meter (µg/m3), 22 times the permissible exposure limit of 50.0 µg/m3. The sampling was performed for 418 minutes on January 16, 2019. Stone House Enterprises, Inc. dba Jacksonville Granite was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard, 29 CFR 1910.1000(c), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1132304, citation number 1, item number 1b and was affirmed as a final order on October 25, 2018, with respect to a workplace located at 124 Industrial Loop W, Orange Park, FL 32073.
