Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002B Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.138(a): The employer did not select and require employee(s) to use appropriate hand protection when employees' hands were exposed to hazards such as those from skin absorption of harmful substances; severe cuts or lacerations; severe abrasion; punctures; chemical burns; thermal burns; and harmful temperature extremes. HOSPITAL-WIDE: On or about and at times prior to December 6, 2018, the employer had not selected the appropriate hand protection for employees who were responsible for cleaning patient rooms with a sporicidal product containing hydrogen peroxide, peracetic acid, and acetic acid. The product was known to cause skin rashes. A NIOSH health hazard evaluation conducted on this product recommended use of extended cuff gloves to protect employees' wrists and lower arms.
