Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 004 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.151(c): Where employees were exposed to injurious corrosive materials, suitable facilities for quick drenching or flushing of the eyes and body were not provided within the work area for immediate emergency use: The employer is failing to provide a suitable means for quick drenching or flushing of the eyes and body where employees are exposed to a corrosive chemical. This most recently occurred on April 25, 2017 at the facility located at 4200 S. 121st Plaza, Omaha, NE 68137. Employees are required to refill powered industrial truck batteries with deionized water. During this process there is the potential for batteries to be overfilled or explode which would expose employees to the battery acid. There is a plumbed emergency drenching device dedicated to this process but it is located on the other side of a wall; therefore, it is not reachable within 10 seconds on an unimpeded route.
