Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: HEAT
29 CFR Section 5(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a)On February 4, 2005, an employee was pinned between the operational parts of a furnace door closing his upper body inside the heated furnace. Triumph Precision Casting Company failed to take adequate steps to prevent employee access to the inside of the heated furnace. Among other methods, one feasible method to reduce or eliminate this hazard is to install, maintain and utilize a presence sensing device, or light curtain, designed to prevent the operational parts of the furnace door from pinning an employee .
