29 CFR 1926.652(a)(1): Each employee in an excavation was not protected from cave-ins by an adequate protective system designed in accordance with 29 CFR 1926.652(c). (a) Work site was located at 45 Waterview Blvd., Parsippany, NJ 07054. An employee was observed in an unprotected trench deeper than 8 feet and approximately 6'6" wide x 7' long with shear 90 degree walls in Class B wet soil. Water was accumulating in the bottom of the trench while the employee was exposed due to a leaking water main valve. Methods of cave-in protection such as benching or shielding were not utilized. Violation was observed on or about 1/19/2016.
