Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 008 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.134(f)(2): Employee(s) using tight-fitting facepiece respirators were not fit tested prior to initial use of the respirator and annually thereafter: The employer is failing to protect employees from respiratory hazards such as but not limited to exposure to benzene and other volatile organic compounds while cleaning rail tank cars. This violation was most recently documented at a worksite located at near 3100 S 30th Street, Omaha, NE 68107, where employee #5, who was not fit tested prior to initial use and at least annually there after was required to wear a tight fitting 3M half-face respirator for protection while entering and cleaning out rail tank cars CTCX733725 and CTCX733546 that contained sweet crude oil. To abate this violation, the employer must assure that each employee who is required to wear tight-fitting respirators is fit test prior to first use and at least annually thereafter.
