Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 004 Hazard:
29 CFR 1915.73(d): When employees are exposed to unguarded edges of decks, platforms, flats, and similar flat surfaces, more than 5 feet above a solid surface, the edges shall be guarded by adequate guardrails meeting the requirements of 1915.71(j)(1) and (2): (a) On or about April 01, 2015, at the dry dock confined space access and at the two openings in the walls of the dry dock, the employer failed to ensure employees were protected from a fall hazard of approximately 10 feet and 20 feet by providing inadequate chain guardrails. Employees were exposed to fall hazards. The Corn Island Shipyard, Inc. was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard, 29 CFR 1915.73(d), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 941074, citation number 1, item number 1c and was affirmed as a final order on November 8, 2013, with respect to a workplace located at 8735 Highway 66 East in Grandview, IN.
