Abstract: On September 30, 2013, Employee #1, a 36-year-old male with Scott & Starr West, was riding in the passenger seat of a Polaris Ranger; model number XP 900, utility vehicle, working in a rice field to conduct burning operations. The wind shifted suddenly, the coworker, who was driving the Polaris Ranger XP 900 utility vehicle, lost visibility because of the smoke and crashed into a parked agricultural tractor. The crash ejected Employee #1 into the ROP's pillar and windshield. The coworker who was driving and Employee #1 were both not wearing seat belts at the time of the crash and it was estimated that the vehicle was traveling at approximately 25 miles-per-hour or greater. Employee #1 was taken via helicopter to Sutter Roseville Hospital, with multiple fractures and head trauma. The coworker, who was the driver of the Polaris Ranger, received minor injuries in the collision event.
