29 CFR 1910.147(c)(1): The employer did not establish a program consisting of an energy control procedures and employee training to ensure that before any employee performed any servicing or maintenance on a machine or equipment where the unexpected energizing, start up or release of stored energy could occur and cause injury, the machine or equipment would be isolated, and rendered inoperative: (a) Dick's Sporting Good, Inc. at 31 W Flatiron Crossing Drive in Broomfield, CO: On or before March 30, 2021, the employer did not establish a program consisting of authorized employee training, periodic inspections, or use of locks/tags to prevent the unexpected release of hazardous energy of the trash compactor. Operations employees regularly entered the compactor while it was energized to perform servicing, specifically to unjam material that became stuck in the equipment. This condition exposed employees to crushing hazards.
