Text For Citation: 05 Item/Group: 003 Hazard: EXPLOSION
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that: a) On or about 12/14/88, and at times prior thereto, at the Cenex Refinery, Laurel, Montana, employees were exposed to the hazard of flying debris and fire resulting from failure of the distillate hydrotreater system in Zone A when periodic maintenance was not performed as recommended by the manufacturer. A feasible and acceptable abatement method, among others, to correct this hazard is to perform periodic maintenance as recommended by the manufacturer.
