Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to death or crushing hazards from falling loads caused an improper combination of equipment: a) Sheet and Tin Division 1) Tin Free Steel Entry Tower, North Side - A 3/4 inch sheave was placed in service where 7/8 inch wire rope was used thus imposing excessive strain and abrasive wear on the wire rope, observed August 10, 1989. A feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct the hazard is to replace the improperly used sheave with an appropriate one.
