North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that employees were exposed to being struck by a compressed metal spring/strut spring: a)establishment, maintenance bay by Hunter alignment lift - Branick MacPherson strut spring compressor, SN MST580A, was not maintained in a safe operating condition. The bottom tension keepers would not maintain compression which allowed the spring to slip/bow out toward the operator. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to repair the compressor so that the spring is retained so as not to create a hazard.
