Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: The hazards of being burned due to being trapped on the fingerboard on the number 1 drilling rig, located at the Mamie Simpson number 1 wellsite in Burnt Prairie, IL, during a rig fire without having a means of escape. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is the installation of an emergency escape means running from the fingerboard to a location remote from the wellhole and the drilling floor following rigging up of the rig mast.
